This is a sixth of Hoffmann's Modern Magic. Printed around eleven years after it was first published. Modern Magic had a huge impact on the world of conjuring. It was the first book in the English language to move away from simply exposing the secrets of tricks towards truly explaining how to perform them. With in-depth descriptions of card and coin tricks, mechanical apparatus and stage illusions, it became an instant success and spawned a slew of similar books from rival publishers.
Condition: Poor. This copy is very well worn. It is missing its frontispiece and title page and half of its front endpaper. There are library labels to the surviving front endpaper. The text block has detached from the binding at the front of the book and has nearly detached at the back. All aspects of the book are worn and marked, with creases and small tears to a few page edges. The spine cloth is creased with some loss to top and bottom. A good candidate for rebinding or for use as a reference copy if handled with care.
