This handsome edition of Cockton's best-known work was probably printed around 1890. It is an interesting relic of a time when ventriloquism was very popular but little understood. The novel, first published in serial form 1839, follows the story of Vox who learns ventriloquism having seen an entertainer demonstrate it. With these skills he fools hundreds. It's a fascinating novel related to magic's closest allied art.
